Message from the Halton Learning Foundation ~ Back to School

 The transition back to school can be difficult for some kids, and is especially challenging for more than 6,000 students in the Halton District School Board (HDSB) who cannot afford the basic supplies they need to learn.

Take “Daniel and Maya”. The students’ home burned down a few days before the start of school last year.  With the generous support of our donors, the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) ensured the siblings had new clothing and school supplies in time for the first day of class. It was a huge relief for their parents, who were already struggling financially.

Before Day 1 of the new school year, HLF will have already responded to a dozen requests to support financially vulnerable students of the HDSB. With your help our goal is to raise $40,000 by September 30 so all HDSB students can start the year with the tools they need to be successful.

Here are some examples of how you can make a difference*:

  • $25 purchases a backpack and some school supplies;

  • $60 will purchase a warm coat and boots to enable a child to get to school on cold days;

  • $250 will purchase high school lunches for two months, enabling a student to focus on learning.

Please consider making a gift to help level the playing field for students in our community. Donate online at, or call 905-335-3665, ext. 3408. Thank you.
