Bullying Awareness Update

posted Nov 22, 2016, 6:42 AM by Jeff Chaisson
This year at RBPS we are really focusing on the term bullying and how it is used. We are finding that many are using the term loosely. We would like to differentiate between a one time unkind act versus ongoing bullying behaviors. The main difference being that we use the term bullying when the bullying behaviors are repeated over a period of time. Our goal is to have zero percent of students report that they are being bullied. We understand that we will still have instances of bullying behaviors but our hope is that no students will feel they are being targeted over a period of time. If bullying does occur than we want students to be able to accurately identify it as bullying. We are also asking that students be a friend and not a bystander. A bystander is someone who stands by while an unkind act is occurring. We are asking that students step up and step in by intervening politely and, if the situation is still not resolved, seek the help of a staff member.
